Competitions in upper primary,
high school and higher secondary categories held at 18 venues
The revenue district school youth
festival was formally inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Food and
Public Distribution K.V. Thomas in Muvattupuzha on Tuesday.A colourful
procession was held ahead of the inaugural function.Band competition and literary
contests marked the first day of the fest on Monday.Dance events, the showpiece
of the festival, and other competitions in upper primary, high school and
higher secondary categories were held at 18 venues.
Folk dance, chavittunatakam,
English skit, recitation, elocution, mimicry, mono act, classical music, light
music, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Kathakali were among the competitions held
on the first day.The band competition, which set the tone for the four-day
fest, was held on the campus of Muvattupuzha Model School.The team from
Thrikkakara Mary Matha English Medium Higher Secondary School emerged winners
in the higher secondary school category by coming up with the perfect tune to
match their synchronized movements.
St. Jude’s English Medium High
School, Karanakkodam, won the first prize in the high school category.All teams
that participated in the competition tried to bring in accuracy and novelty in
all the aspects of the competition including marching, formation, dress code
and drum solo.All three teams that participated in the higher secondary
category were found eligible for A grade. The judges, however, found the
performance of a few teams in the high school category repetitive, and only
three teams, out of five, were awarded A grade.A variety of issues ranging from
Aam Aadmi to Jasmine Revolution emerged subjects in the painting competition.
Story writing, essay and poetry were among the literary competitions held.
