IIT-M PLACEMENTS: TWO STUDENTS OFFERED RS. 1 CRORE


Two students of IIT-Madras have been offered $2,10,000 (over Rs. 1 crore) per annum by an American multinational company in this year’s placements, which began on the campus on Sunday.As a matter of policy, the institution does not disclose details of the company or the candidate concerned. However, this is a significant increase in remuneration offered – last year, the highest job offer was for $1,50,000 per annum.As many as 1,366 students registered for placements this year, compared to 1,282 last year, Lt. Col Jayakumar, deputy registrar (placements), said. The number of domestic and international job offers too, increased significantly this year, said IIT-M officials.Companies that recruited at the campus on the first two days include Samsung Electronics, M/S Epic, Microsoft India, Oracle, Google, Capital One Services, LinkedIn and eBay, among others. Over 150 job offers have been made over the course of two days.

Placement committee sources said over 270 companies are scheduled to visit IIT-M this season. Salary packages offered by Indian companies too, have gone up significantly, sources said.Students said that this year, core engineering companies and financial firms were more sought after than technology giants. “This year, we have interesting profiles in research-allied areas and investment banking sectors that were not offered in the past,” a student said.
