CELEBRATING THEIR WEDDING WITH CHARITY

By donating Rs. 10 lakh towards the welfare of cancer patients instead of spending the amount on an extravagant wedding, actor Rima Kallingal and director Aashiq Abu have set an example of social responsibility. “We wanted a simple wedding,” said Rima at a small function organised by the General Hospital to receive the donation. The gesture hopefully would inspire others also to take up such social causes, the couple, who will tie the knot on Friday, said. They also cut a cake on the occasion.
As part of their wedding celebration, they also donated Rs. 25,000 to meet a day’s expense of the dietary kitchen at the General Hospital that provides free food to all the in-patients. Hospital superintendent P.G. Anne handed over a memento to the couple to honour their gesture. P. Rajeeve, MP, Hibi Eden, MLA, and doctors and staff of the hospital were present on the occasion. Dr. Anne said the funds would be used to buy medicines for poor patients that were not available in the hospital store.
The couple later visited former Supreme Court judge Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer and sought his blessings.
